Thank you Kim! I think his rules is pretty charming (after all, it is wonderful that he enjoys owning things I’ve made), but I do find it intensely demanding 😉

This one is really heavy now – but I think that will be a good thing as he lives in Michigan!

It really has done surprisingly well, considering it has had near constant use. I’d rather they get used up and turned into a rag, than kept for special and never loved!

A friend once made a quilt of all her orphan blocks, and it was known as the “barf” quilt – it was their version of a “sick-in-bed” quilt!

He took it to college and used it for 4 years. When he got married they used it. About a year ago he showed it to me. He had been using it as a curtain and the back fabric was all shredded. I did the same as you and had a new backing machine quilted over the old backing. It turned out great but was a lot heavier. I didn’t hand sew the binding, I machined sewed it because I knew the quilt was going to get lots more wear.

Thank you for sharing this! I have a few “ahem” fabric choices in quilts from when I didn’t know better, but even so, I think 20 years of love is a pretty decent return on my under-educated investment. 🙂
