I’m working on having a Hunter’s Design Studio booth at the Long Beach Quilt Festival in July 2012 with the help of a Kickstarter campaign! Kickstarter is a groovy site that helps creative people raise funds through micro-financing to launch their projects and businesses. It works like this: I tell you about my project, and I offer all sorts of rewards in exchange for your pledges of help – when I reach my goal (and only if I reach my goal), your pledge gets sent to me and I send you something cool that I made.

My philosophy here at Hunter’s Design Studio (HDS) is to create cool patterns for the contemporary and modern quilt enthusiasts. I aim to create patterns that help beginners and up-and-coming quilt addicts make something that is complex to look at, but easy to create. I’m interested in designing things with a visual complexity that encourages excitement for the craft of sewing. My easy-level patterns help build construction skills and color confidence. I also have patterns of greater complexity for the seasoned sewists – and they all include a lot of drawings to clarify each step in the process.

$5, $10 and $25 – your choice of downloadable Hunter’s Design Studio Pattern(s)
$10 – a set of 8 of the Sew Sassy Buttons
$40 – HAND DYED GRADATIONS: Six fat quarters of high quality cotton fabric (approx 18″ x 22″ each, total 1.5 yards fabric) hand-dyed by Sam in a light to dark gradation of one color of your choice – PLUS one electronic download (PDF) of a HDS pattern of your choice.
$75 – BIGGER HAND DYED GRADATIONS: Six half yards of high quality cotton fabric (approx 18″ x 42″ each, total 3 yards of fabric) hand dyed by Sam in a light to dark gradation of one color of your choice – PLUS electronic downloads (PDF) of TWO HDS patterns of your choice.
$100 – GROOVY AND OH SO PRACTICAL CUSTOM TOTE BAG: One custom tote hand-made by Sam in high quality cotton and/or canvas fabrics in cool contemporary prints. The pattern is Sam’s own adaptation of the popular Letty’s Bag by Robin Gallagher of Robin Quilts. It is 12″ wide x 6″ deep x 13″ tall with a flat base and great interior pockets. Once pledges are done I will make a selection of bags and load them here on the HDS site for you to choose from.
$225 – MEGA HAND-DYED STASH: Twenty-four half yard cuts of high quality cotton fabric (approx 18″ x 42″, total 12 yards), hand-dyed by Sam in a 24 step color wheel. Your choice of bright or muted colors.
$250 – PRIVATE WORKSHOP: One six-hour private workshop with Sam for six people from your choice of any of the HDS patterns. Includes a hard copy pattern for each student and a set of 8 Sew Sassy Buttons for each student. (60 mile radius from Burbank CA – if further away let’s chat before you pledge). Schedule to be discussed at the end of the campaign.
$500 – GUILD LECTURE + WORKSHOP: Sam will deliver a lecture and teach a workshop (of your choice) for your guild – $700 value! Travel expenses (round trip from CA) to be paid by the guild. Includes a hard copy pattern for each workshop student plus patterns and buttons as door prizes. Schedule to be discussed at the end of the campaign.
$1000 – BIG QUILT: A queen sized bed quilt of your choice, hand-made by Sam, and based on any of her HDS patterns. We will discuss what you want in July and I will deliver by Dec 15 2012.
MORE QUILTS: These quilts are ones that I have made either on the way to testing patterns, or as samples for classes I have taught. All quilts are 100% cut, sewn and quilted by me from high quality quilting cotton purchased from local quilt stores. Where applicable and possible, the pattern source is noted and linked, and I purchased a legitimate copy before use. (Yes, I know all of that sounds very overwrought but it seems important to note, if nothing to keep the lawyers happy :-)
The Wonderful Z Family Children (with Z Mama behind the scenes) helped with the photography, but Z Mama likes her kiddos and says they are not for sale – well, not this week anyway!
